From Fairy Wings to Skate Things

As the youngest member of a family of adventurers, I’ve been blessed with incredible opportunities to enjoy the outdoors since I was tiny. Whether it's adventuring at our family bach in New Zealand, snowboarding, skateboarding, or climbing trees, I’m happiest when I’m outside trying something new.
My parents, Sarah and Matt, must have had a premonition when they named me Pixie. With my fiery red hair and freckles, I could easily be mistaken for a garden fairy, especially when I’m running around with my gorgeous chocolate dachshund, Honey. It’s no surprise I love bright colours, sparkles, and making a splash with my wild, mismatched style.
I started snowboarding when I was just four years old. On one of our annual trips to New Zealand, I saw a skateboarder dropping into a big ramp and told Mum, “I want to learn to do that!” Before long, I found my happy place on a skateboard. Mum thought I looked so cute, she started filming my journey - and I never wanted to stop. Even after hours on my board, I'm never ready to call it a day.
Mum wanted to find a place where I could keep growing my skills safely while learning new tricks. That’s when we discovered Level Up in Currumbin. It’s been an amazing space for me, surrounded by incredible coaches and awesome mentors. I not only get to learn something new every day - I also get to watch my skate heroes land insane tricks right in front of me.
Most mornings, my day starts early. My tutor arrives at 7:15, usually while I’m finishing the last bite of toast. I do 2 to 3 hours of school, and then it’s time to shred. Before we leave the house, I’m already dressed in an oversized shirt, mismatched socks, and my odd shoes - pads on, helmet in hand - ready to go before Mum clips me into my car seat. (Yep, still too small to ride without one!)
After 2.5 hours of Academy lessons, we free skate, practice tricks, and have fun skating with friends. That’s when Mum starts saying we have to go home - Dad’s waiting to hear all about our day. But sometimes, we convince her with a classic: “Just 10 more minutes… pleeeaassse???”
I know I’m lucky to get to do what I love every day. But it’s not always smooth sailing. I’ve got my fair share of bruises - because skaters fall down… a lot. My hair gets super knotty from skating hard (especially in summer), I tear holes in my clothes all the time, and I go through shoes every few weeks. Sometimes, I’m so tired I fall asleep in the car on the way home. But honestly? I wouldn’t trade it for anything, because the skater life is the good life!
